Safely in London

2022-06-09 We arrived about 9:30 a.m. London time, and we headed for the customs line. After walking what seem to be a mile, we rounded the corner to see customs. Imagine our surprise when the line was so far away we couldn't even see the end of it. Then it came up and snaked around, and around every turn there were more huge lines to go around. Even though we felt like we had been in line for 3 or 4 hours, we actually were there about an hour. Once we got up there, it was very easy to stick our passport in, let them take a picture of our face, and then just walk through.

We are staying at the Hilton Garden Inn in the airport, so we drug ourselves off to the hotel and checked in our room. We are 6 hours ahead so by this time it was 11:00 a.m. London time and 5:00 a.m. Mississippi time. It didn't take long for Kay to put her pajamas on and get in bed. I did the same, except I didn't even bother with the pajamas. By this time it was about noon London time. Suddenly at 3:00 p.m. we heard these loud noises and alarms going off, and a voice saying that there was a fire and to please evacuate the building. Kay quickly changed back into her clothes, We grabbed passports, phones, and our room key and headed downstairs, using the stairway. Fortunately we were on the third floor and not the 20th! About the time we got downstairs, we found out it was a drill. Yuck! So that was the end of that nice sleep that we had, although 3 hours was probably just about right to start getting us back in London time.

About 6:00 p.m. we went down for supper at the Apron Restaurant. It was really good. Kay had fish and chips, and I had chips :-) they were actually called chunky fries, very similar to steak fries in consistency but more square than rectangular shaped from the end view. For a drink, we had lemonade, which came in a bottle, but it was very tasty, not too sweet like the Chick-fil-A lemonade I had just had in New Orleans. Then we headed back to the room, Kay got a shower and I slept some more. It is now 11:30 p.m. London time and I'm awake, and Kay is awake trying to sleep :-) We have our alarm set for 6:15 tomorrow morning for breakfast and then to head back into the airport to catch our Carnival shuttle to Dover. I'm hoping we'll see the white cliffs of Dover, which is famous, before we board the Pride to head off on our cruise.

Another not so exciting day, but the fun is coming if you'll be patient!
